General Information

Shrubs or small trees, to 5-6 m tall; branches glabrous. Leaves opposite; petiole 4-10 mm, glabrous; blade drying rather leathery, elliptic-oblong, elliptic, oblanceolate, obovate, or oblong-lanceolate, 10-17(-20) × 3-6(-9) cm, glabrous on both surfaces, base cuneate to obtuse, apex obtuse to acute; secondary veins 8-12 pairs; stipules usually persistent, interpetiolar or usually united around stem, broadly ovate to triangular, 3-6 mm, glabrous, acute or with arista 0.3-3.5 mm. Inflorescences terminal, corymbiform to densely cymose, puberulent, subsessile to pedunculate; peduncle to 4.5 cm; branched portion 2.5-4 × 3-5 cm (not including corollas); bracts lanceolate, elliptic, or narrowly ligulate, 8-10 mm, obtuse to acute. Flowers sessile or subsessile. Calyx glabrous; hypanthium ellipsoid to subglobose, 1-1.5 mm; limb deeply lobed; lobes elliptic, narrowly elliptic, or oblanceolate, 4-6 mm, acute. Corolla white, outside glabrous; tube 20-30 mm, glabrous at throat; lobes narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate, 5-6 × 1.2-3 mm, acute to subacute. Drupe subglobose and often weakly didymous, 6-8 mm in diam., glabrous. Fl. Apr-Oct, fr. Sep.

    Arbustos hasta 5 m de alto, glabros. Hojas elípticas a elíptico-oblongas, 6–18 cm de largo y 2–6 cm de ancho, ápice agudo, base cuneada a aguda, papiráceas a cartáceas, nervios secundarios 6–8 pares; pecíolos 4–20 mm de largo; estípulas interpeciolares, persistentes, triangulares, 2–7 mm de largo y además la arista caduca de 2–3 mm de largo. Inflorescencias redondeadas, cimoso-corimbosas, 5–10 cm de largo y de ancho, flores subsésiles; limbo calicino 3–4 mm de largo, profundamente lobulado; corola glabra, blanca, tubo 20–30 mm de largo, lobos angostamente elípticos, 4–8 mm de largo, agudos. Frutos no observados.

    Ocasionalmente cultivada; 60–280 m; fl todo el año; Grijalva 2984, Robleto 406; nativa de India. La variante ortográfica findlaysoniana ha sido a veces usada, pero es incorrecta. "Corona de novia".

    Shrubs or trees, to 4.5 m tall, the twigs terete, smooth, glabrous, ultimately angular, the pith porate, the nodes 1.5-5.0 cm apart. Leaves narrowly obovate to oblong, occasionally subfalcate, 7-18 cm long, 2.5-6.5 cm wide, obtuse to cuneate at the apex, occasionally rounded, basally cuneate, often attenuate acute, the costa prominulous or immersed above, subprominent beneath, especially proximally, the lateral veins ca. 9, arcuate, thinly coriaceous, concolorous, gla- brous; petioles to 2 cm long, 0.10-0.22 cm wide; stipules free or occasionally connate, oblong or hemispherical, 0.4-0.7 mm long, with 1-2 subulate awns long- er than the body, arising from 1-3 scarcely elevated longitudinal ridges on the body. Inflorescences terminal, capitate, to 4.5 cm long, ca. 9 cm wide, rounded. Flowers glabrous; hypanthium short, the calycine cup ca. 0.5 mm long, eglan- dular, the calycine lobes foliaceous, widely elliptic, to 3.5 mm long, to 2 mm wide, acute, thickly petaloid; corolla white, the tube narrowly cylindrical, to 32 mm long, 1 mm wide, petaloid, the lobes 4, spreading or reflexed, oblong, 8 mm long, to 3 mm wide; stamens 5, exserted, the anthers linear ovate, 1.8 mm long, acuminate at the apex, sagittate at the base, the filaments short, attached at the mouth; ovarian disc doughnut shaped, compressed, the style linear, as long as the corolla tube, the stigmas narrowly oblong, to 2 mm long. Fruits not seen.
