Diagnostic Description

Cette espece est fort curieuse, elle est très voisine de T A. angulatum Mast. Comme lui, elle ne possède, en général, qu'une graine par mériearpe el ces graines sont de forme identique. Elle diffère cependant de l’espèce de Masters par son inflorescence qui n’est pas en panicule aphylle, par ses feuilles beaucoup plus petites et profondément dentées et enfin par son fruit bien plus petit et dépassé de beaucoup par les lobes du calice. On pourrait donc placer cette espèce à côté et immédiatement avant T A. angulatum.

    Morphology

    Perennial shrub, 0.75-2.00 m high. Indumentum without patent simple hairs. Mericarps 51-76 cm number, 5-7 x 3-5 mm. Flowers yellow to apricot.

    Caules erecti, simpiices, vel ramulis axillaribus mature evolutis ± ramosi, luteo-grisei, tomentelli, vix pulverulenti, cylindrici. Folia mediocria vel parva; stipulae longae, subulatae, tomentosae; mox caducae; petioli tomentosi. sulcati; lamina ovata, cordata, acuminata, interdum obsolete triloba, margine grosse, irregulariter atque profunde dentata, dentibus majoribus saepe dentes ferentibus, paImati-7-9 nervia, subtus dense tomentosa, grisea. nervis prominulis, supra parce pubescens, griseo-viridis, nervis haud prominulis sed luteis. Flores axillares, apice ramorum conferti, solitarii; pedunculi tomentosi, parte superiore articulati; calyx extus tomentosus, intus pilosus, 5-lobatus, lobis profundis, acuminatis, trinervibus; petala aurea et basi violacea, calyce non multo longiora; columna staminalis petalis brevior; stigmata capitata, capite minimo violaceo. Fructus globosus, apice umbilicatus ca. 26-carpidiatus, calyce minor, tomentosus, junior viridis, senior nigrescens. Semen in quoque loculo unum evolutum, nigrum et granulis vel pilis minutis albis rugosum. Petioli 1-3.5 cm longi; lamina 2.5-5 cm longa et 2-4 cm lata; pedunculi floriferi 1-1.5 cm longi, fructiferi 1.7-4 cm longi; calyx ca. 1.2 cm longus; petala ca. 1.3 cm longa; columna stamin. ca. 0.5 cm longa; fructus ca. 0.6 cm longus et 0.9-1.3 cm in diam. latus.

    Erect, semi-herbaceous shrub, up to ± 2 m tall. Leaves long-petiolate, heart-shaped, grey-green, finely hairy, coarsely toothed. Flowers 1-5 at branch tips and in upper leaf axils, petals whitish, yellowish, apricot or pink, sometimes darker red towards base, calyx bowl-shaped, carpels with 1 ovule.
