General Information

Plant stemless, flowering 5-10 dm or higher. Leaves 3 dm long, submembranaceous; sheaths broadly elliptic, 1 dm long, densely appressed-lepidote; blades ligulate, acute and apiculate, over 3 cm wide, obscurely lepidote. Scape slender, glabrous; scape-bracts about equaling the internodes or shorter, apiculate to short-caudate. Inflorescence ample, tripinnate, distichous, 25-60 cm long; axes glabrous; primary bracts narrowly lanceolate, apiculate, not over 35 mm long; spikes flexuous, lax. Floral bracts acute, slightly keeled toward apex, nerved, about equaling the sepals and closely enfolding them; flowers closely appressed to the rhachis. Sepals emarginate, 4 mm long, glabrous. Capsule slenderly cylindric, 13-20 mm long.

    Distribution

    Epiphytic in forest and on isolated trees, 750-1800 m alt, western Venezuela, Colombia.
