Shrub or small tree up to 7·5 m. high, sometimes with scrambling branches; branches terete, branching ± at right-angles, smooth or scarcely rough, pubescent at first, later glabrescent; bark grey to brown, with lenticular streaks of paler grey.
Leaf-lamina 1·5–4·5(7) x 1–2·5(4) cm., elliptic, leathery to papyraceous; apex rounded, obtuse or subacute to acute; margins entire, serrulate to serrate from the middle to the apex; base rounded to cuneate; venation conspicuous on both surfaces, the midrib prominent below; superior surface ± sparsely and minutely pubescent to glabrescent; inferior surface more densely pubescent; petiole 1–5 mm. long, sericeous-pubescent; stipules 3–5 mm. long, broadly ovate, subacute to obtuse at the apex, ± densely pubescent on abaxial surface.
Flowers solitary, 5-merous; pedicels sericeous-pubescent, articulate above the middle; bracteoles 1–2·5 mm. long, conchiform, rounded at the apex and truncate at the base, ± pubescent outside.
Calyx sericeous-pubescent outside and sparsely puberulous inside; calyx-tube 1–2 mm. long; calyx-lobes 4–6 mm. long, ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate.
Petals c. 10 mm. long, spathulate, laciniate above, glabrous.
Stamens c. 20; filaments up to 7 mm. long; anthers c. 1·5 mm. long, oblong-ellipsoid.
Ovary c. 2 mm. long, ovoid, 3-locular, densely pubescent to pubescent at the apex only; style up to 5 mm. long, pubescent near the base, up to the middle or sometimes near its apex.
Fruit up to 11 x 8 mm., ovoid to sub-spherical, densely sericeous-pubescent to sparsely pubescent (more densely near its apex).
