Leaves twisted, 30-120 cm × 3-10 mm, apex acuminate. Scapes terete, ca. 70 cm; bracts ovate, apex acuminate. Flowers numerous; pedicels 4-10 cm. Sepals pinkish white, greenish outside along midvein. Petals pinkish white. Filaments flat-tened, broadened toward base. Styles curved. Seeds small. Fl. and fr. Jul-Sep. 2n = 20 or 40, with aneuploid counts of 16, 22, 24, 26, 28, 39, 42.
Herbs, to 150 cm. Leaves linear, to 2.7 m. Inflorescences with 20--25 flowers; scape to 150 cm. Flowers 2--2.5 cm wide; pedicels 4--10 cm; outer tepals elliptic, 6--7.5 × 2--2.5 mm, apex acute, inner tepals oblanceolate, 9--11.5 × 4.5--6 mm, apex obtuse, erose; filaments 3--4.5 mm, anthers 1 mm. Follicles 1 cm.
A glabrous, aquatic perennial herb with horizontal rhizomes; scapes (30-) 50-90 (rarely-150) cm long, erect; roots fibrous. Leaves all radical, usually about as long as the scapes, linear, ensiform, sheathing at the base, 6-9 mm broad. Inflorescence umbellate, cymose with an involucre of lanceolate-acuminate bracts and bracteoles; bracts 2 or 3, upto 25 mm long, 6-8 mm broad; bracteoles numerous, less than 10 mm long, 2-3 mm broad. Flowers pink, pedicellate; pedicels (3-) 5-9 cm long. Perianth segments 6. biseriate. Sepal-like segments obovate. c. 17-veined, keeled, 9-13 mm long and 6-8 mm broad; petal-like segments broadly obovate, c. 13-veined, 9-15 mm long, 8 mm broad. Stamens usually 9, rarely 5 or numerous; filaments linear, usually dilated at the base, variable in length, free, slightly connate at the base; anthers basifixed, 2-celled, ovate to oblong (linear-oblong in young flowers), 2-4 mm long. Carpels 6-9 or many, each 3-5.5 mm long, 1.5-2 mm broad, superior, free or somewhat connate basally, obovate; style simple, short, terminal, persistent; stigma ventral, curved. Ovules numerous, anatropous, minute on reticulate parietal placentas. Fruit a many-seeded, beaked follicle, obovate, 7-9 mm long, 2-3.5 mm broad. Seeds numerous, minute, 0.2-0.4 mm long, oblong with thin testa and straight embryo.
Lvs basal, erect, floating, or submersed in water up to several m deep, linear, to 1 m, 5–10 mm wide; scape 1–1.5+ m; fls numerous, 2–2.5 cm wide, on pedicels 5–10 cm; 2n=20, 26, 39. Native of Eurasia, thoroughly established on shores and riverbanks in the St. Lawrence R. valley and in Lake Champlain, and more recently spread inland, even to N.D., S.D., Mont., and Ida. June–Aug.
60–150 cm hoch, im Wasser stehend. Stängel rund. Blätter grundständig, flutend, lineal, bis über 1 m lang, zuunterst ca. 1 cm breit, 3kantig, nur zuoberst flach (vgl. Alisma gramineum, Nr. 2371). Blütenstand doldig, bis 30blütig, von
35-185 cm boyunda, tüysüz, çokyıllık rizomlu bitkiler. Rizom yatay, 6-11 mm çapında. Yapraklar tabanda, çiçekdurumundan kısa, şeritsi, üç köşeli, dik, almaşlı, 30-175 × (0,3-)0,5-1,1 cm, kenarı düz, ucu sipsivri. Çiçekdurumu yalancı şemsiye, 35-185 cm boyunda; şemsiyeler 5-36 çiçekli; çiçek sapı en çok 10 cm uzunluğunda. Tepaller 6 tane, 3’ü dış, 3’ü iç halkada; dış tepaller iç tepallerden biraz kısa, sivri, dış yüzeyi yeşilimsi bordo, iç yüzeyler açık pembe, belirgin koyu damarlı, 11-14,5 × 6-8 mm; iç tepaller açık pembe veya beyaz, bordo damarlı, tersyumurtamsı, ucu küt, 12,5-16 × 11-13 mm; erkek organlar 9 tane; başçıklar siyahımsı- mor, 2-3 mm uzunluğunda, filâmentler beyaz, 7-9 mm; ginekeum 6 ayrık karpelli, karpeller 6-8 mm uzunluğunda, sitilus düz ilâ az çok kıvrık. Meyve folikül, 12 × 6 mm.
