Young twigs somewhat scurfily stellate-pubescent, soon glabrescent.
A monoecious or dioecious tree 13–18.5 m. tall.
Seeds ovoid, 2.2 cm. long, 1.6 cm. wide, greyish-brown mottled, somewhat shiny, with a caruncle 5 mm. wide.
Fruits ovoid, bilobed, sometimes asymmetrically so owing to the abortion of 1 ovule, 2.5 cm. long, 1.8–2 cm. wide, indehiscent, evenly stellate-pubescent.
Female flowers: pedicels 2 mm. long, stouter than the ♂ pedicels, scarcely elongating in fruit, densely fulvous stellate-pubescent; sepals 5, lanceolate, 3 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, subacute, evenly stellate-pubescent without, thinly so within; petals 0; disc 5-lobed, the lobes triangular, 1 mm. long, acutely acuminate; ovary bilobed, 3–4 mm. diameter, densely fulvous stellate-tomentose; styles 2, spreading-recurved, 5 mm. long, glabrous above, stellate-pubescent beneath, deeply bipartite, the lobes linear, 4 mm. long.
Male flowers: pedicels 3–4 mm. long, evenly stellate-pubescent; sepals 5, elliptic-ovate, 2.5 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, subacute, stellate-pubescent without, glabrous within, greenish; petals elliptic-lanceolate, 2.5–3 mm. long, 1 mm. wide, acute, glabrous without, villous within towards the apex, white; disc-glands free, triangular-subulate, acute, fleshy; stamens 14–15, filaments 3 mm. long, glabrous, anthers 0.8 mm. long; receptacle villous.
Racemes terminal, 8–19 cm. long, 1 cm. wide, densely many-flowered, either all ♂ or with 3–4 ♀ flowers at the base, axis densely whitish stellate-pubescent; bracts linear-filiform, 2 mm. long, stellate-pubescent without, glabrous within.
Stipules filiform, 1 cm. long, sparingly stellate-pubescent, soon caducous.
Petioles (1.5–)3–7 cm. long, sparingly stellate-pubescent; leaf-blade broadly triangular-ovate, 5–15 cm. long, 3.5–12 cm. wide, acutely caudate-acuminate, cuneate-subtruncate to shallowly cordate, with 2 small subsessile discoid basal glands not visible from above, usually coarsely dentate to sub-5-lobed, more rarely shallowly toothed to sub-entire, chartaceous, 5–7-nerved from the base, remaining lateral nerves 4–6 pairs, prominent beneath, densely fulvous (above) and greyish (beneath) stellate-pubescent at first, later becoming almost glabrous and dull green, drying blackish, above, but with the surface rough owing to the persistent hair-bases, and evenly greyish pubescent beneath.
