General Information

Elaphoglossum peltatum (Sw.) Urb., Symb. Antill. 4: 60. 1903; Osmunda peltata Sw.; Peltapteris peltata (Sw.) C.V. Morton. Fig. 55 H.Epífitas o rupícolas; rizoma largamente rastrero, ca 1 mm de diámetro, con escamas linear-lanceo­ladas de ca 2 mm de largo, enteras; hojas dimorfas, 1.5–9 cm de largo y 1.5–6 cm de ancho; filopodios ausentes; pecíolo ca 3/4 de la longitud de la hoja, dispersa­mente escamoso; lámina flabela­da, mayormente 4–6 veces dicotómica­mente dividi­da, los segmentos lineares de hasta 2 mm de ancho o raramente más; hojas fértiles más largas que las estériles, pecíolo hasta 10 veces la longitud de la lámina, también dispersa­mente esca­moso; lámina entera, simple o raramente 2-lo­bada, redon­deada o acorazonada, 5–20 mm de ancho, con márgenes esté­riles visibles de ca 0.5 mm de ancho; escamas inter­esporan­giales ausentes.Nebliselvas, bosques enanos, bosques húmedos, pluvioselvas y bosques de pino-encinos; Araquistain 2611, Stevens 4357; 0–1750 m; México a Bolivia, Jamaica, República Dominicana y Haití. Esta es tal vez la especie de Elaphoglossum más abundante en Nicaragua. LC

    Rhizomes long-creeping, slender, ca. 1 mm diam.; rhizome scales lanceolate, tan; fronds dimorphic; sterile fronds 3–15 x 2.5–5 cm, distant; stipes ca. 3/4 the frond length, green to stramineous, sparsely scaly; phyllopodia absent; blades flabellate, mostly 4–6 times dichotomously divided, the segments linear, 0.5–1.5 mm wide, laminae with a few small scales; fertile fronds longer than the sterile and nearly undivided, usually two-lobed, 5–20 mm wide, with sterile margins ca. 0.5 mm wide; 2n=80 (CR).
