    Arbres'à rameaux pubescents.'Feuilles'opposées, subopposées à alternes, pétiolées, coriaces, penninerves, brillantes en dessus.'Inflorescences'axillaires, pédonculées, cymeuses.'Fleurs' ☿, pédicellées; réceptacle turbiné; calice à 5 dents triangulaires; pétales 5, petits, orbiculaires, en capuchon; étamines 5, logées dans le pétale, à anthère subsessile, à large connectif du côté interne et court prolongement du filet du côté externe; disque peu distinct ou absent; ovaire libre dans le réceptacle, à 1 loge fertile, accompagnée parfois de 1-2 loges stériles, plus rarement 2 ovules basilaires par loge; style court et épais, surmonté d'un stigmate pelté et lobé.'Drupes'oblongues, à exocarpe mince; mésocarpe ligneux mais mou; endocarpe dur, présentant une cavité en dessous de la graine et à 2 sillons latéraux.'Graines 1 ou 2, la seconde, dans ce cas, en position oblique, à testa crustacé et noir; albumen nul; embryon à cotylédons épais, plan-convexes, oléagineux; radicule épaisse.\n\t\t\t\tGenre monospécifique d'Afrique tropicale.
