General Information

Shrubs or trees, the lenticels conspicuous on the younger stems. Leaves opposite or subopposite, pinnately-veined, entire; mostly petiolate, the stipules interpetiolar. Inflorescences cymes, axillary, pedunculate. Flowers bisexual; floral tube half-spherical to almost conical; sepals (4-)5; petals (4-)5; stamens (4-)5; nectariferous disc apparently absent; ovary more or less superior, in- completely 2-locular, the ovules 2, the style 1, 2-lobed. Fruit drupaceous or berrylike, oblong, the endocarp 2-locular; seeds (1-)2, oily, the endosperm absent.
