Morphology

Lip tripartite from a basal undivided part 4 mm. long; middle lobe deflexed, ligulate, obtuse, nearly 2 cm. long, 2.5 mm. broad; side lobes spreading in the apical part, resembling the anterior petal-lobes, 6.5 cm. long, 1 mm. broad; disk with tooth-like callus in front of spur-opening. Petals bipartite nearly to the base; posterior (upper) lobe erect, adherent to the dorsal sepal, obliquely curved-lanceolate, acute, nearly 2 cm. long and 6 mm. broad just below the middle; anterior lobe united at the base to the lip for ±3.5 mm. then spreading, linear in lower part, filiform in apical part, 5.5 cm. long, 1.5 mm. broad. Dorsal sepal erect, convex, elliptical-lanceolate, acute, ± 1.75 cm. long and 8 mm. broad; laterals spreading, obliquely lanceolate, acute, upper margin adnate to lip for ± 5 mm., 1.8 cm. long and 6–7 mm. broad. A terrestrial herb over 6 dm. high, but lowest part of stem and roots not seen. Stem erect, rather stout, leafy throughout its length, to 7 mm. in diameter. Leaves 7 or more; lowermost not seen, the middle ones lanceolate-elliptical, shortly acuminate, largest 12 cm. long and 5 cm. broad, the upper ones much smaller, resembling the bracts. Inflorescence cylindrical, 25 cm. long, ± 7 cm. in diameter, densely many-flowered. Bracts leafy, lanceolate, acuminate, 2.5–4 cm. long, equalling or longer than the pedicel with ovary. Flowers suberect, green; pedicel with ovary straight, ± 2.5 cm. long. Rostellum in front of anther, 3-lobed, the middle lobe hooded, 2.5 mm. long, the side lobes slender, 1.5 mm. long. Stigmatic arms deflexed, club-shaped, adnate at the base to the lip, 7 mm. long. Anther erect, rounded, papillose, ± 5.5 mm. high, loculi parallel, canals curving forwards and upwards, rather slender, 2 mm. long. Spur dependent, slightly swollen in the apical half, 2.5–3 cm. long.
