Robust shrub, with stout, erect, fleshy branches, 0.5-1.5 m tall. Leaves sessile or shortly petiolate, broadly obovate to orbicular, dorsiventrally flattened, 20-40 x 20-30 mm, covered with a grey, waxy layer, margin horny. Flowers in a dense, rounded, terminal cluster on a peduncle 30-70 mm long, star-shaped, petals 7-10 mm long, white, tinged red. Perennial shrubs 1-1.5(-2) m high, with stems often up to 0.2 m in diameter at base, much branched, with old leaves deciduous. Leaves sessile or with petioles up to 5 mm long; lamina obovate to orbicular, rarely lanceolate, 20-40(-50) x (8-)20-30(-40) mm, with rounded apex, more or less abruptly tapering into petiole, dorsiventrally flattened and slightly convex on both surfaces, covered with a grey bloom and with horny often purplish margin. Inflorescence a round-topped thyrse with one to several dichasia; peduncle 30-70(-100) mm long. Calyx: lobes triangular, 1-1.5 mm long, pointed and with ridges towards apices, fleshy, grey-green often tinged red. Corolla star-shaped, fused at base for 0.5-0.7 mm, white or cream tinged red towards apices; lobes elliptic-lanceolate, 7-10 mm long, sharply pointed and slightly hooded, somewhat ridged, spreading at about right angles. Stamens with purple anthers. Squamae transversely oblong, 0.3-0.4 x 1-1.4 mm, usually truncate, scarcely constricted downwards, fleshy, pale yellow. Shrub sometimes to 2 m. Leaves opposite, mostly sessile, obovate to orbicular, sometimes with horny, purplish margin. Flowers in rounded, terminal clusters, stellate, cream-coloured tinged red, petals 7-10 mm long.
