Leaves 2–8 × 1–2 cm; blade bright green, elliptic to lanceolate. Scape 2–8 dm. Flowers: perianth golden yellow, campanulate, 6–7 mm, 2 times or less as long as broad, lobes erect. Fruits: beaks gradually narrowed distally. 2n = 26.

    Much like no. 1 [Aletris farinosa L.]; raceme usually looser; fls yellow, campanulate, 5–7 mm, the perianth-lobes triangular, 1.5 mm, nearly as wide; 2n=26. Pine-barrens, chiefly on the coastal plain; s. Md. to Fla. and Tex. June, July.
